🏅Vergotia 2025: International Athletics Meeting Returns to Kefalonia on May 10
The island of Kefalonia is set to host the Vergotia 2025 International Athletics Meeting on Saturday, May 10, at the Municipal Stadium of Lixouri. As part of the World Athletics Continental Tour – Europe (Category D – Challenger), the event is included in the official calendar of the global athletics federation.

Men’s and Women’s: 100m, 200m, 400m
Men’s and Women’s: Long Jump, High Jump
Men’s: Shot Put
Women’s: Javelin Throw
The Vergotia has deep roots in Kefalonia’s sporting history. Originally held from 1958 through the mid-1980s, the event was revived in 2015 by the local athletics club Gymnastiki Etairia Kefallinias and has since grown into a major international competition. It is the only international track and field meeting in the Ionian Islands and one of the most prominent in Greece.
Over the years, Vergotia has attracted top-tier athletes, including:
Miltiadis Tentoglou, Olympic gold medalist in long jump
Voula Papachristou, European triple jump champion
Marija Vukovic, high jump champion from Montenegro
Andrei Rares Toader, 2025 European shot put champion from Romania
Top athletes from Greece and abroad are expected to compete at Vergotia 2025, and the event will be broadcast on television. Spectators will be able to attend with free admission, offering a unique opportunity for fans of all ages to experience world-class athletics up close.
