Our mission to Kefalonia continues in the southern part of the island, exploring the villages of Skala, Poros and Ratzakli, picturesque settlements with beautiful beaches, as well as important archeological sites.
Begin your journey with a visit to the archeological site of Mycenaean vaulted tomb, located in the village of Tzannata. This is the most important discovery in the area, due to its size (6.8m diameter, 3.95m height) and its level of conservation. The golden finds indicate the burial of an important person, a fact which testifies to the existence of an important Mycenaean center there, connecting it with Ithaca of Homer.
In the direction of Poros, make a detour to visit the oldest monastery of the island , the Monastery of Atrou and enjoy the wonderful view!
Continue your way to Poros from the main road and you will pass through the most beautiful gorge of the island. Soon, you will be in Poros. Here, walk around the small, picturesque settlement, it’s worth it!
Next, take the coastal road to Skala, a beautiful seaside resort with a long sandy organized beach surrounded by crystal clear waters. The sea is deep, so rather cool in temperature. Here you can also visit the ruins of a Roman mansion, built in the 2nd century AD, which came to light in 1957.
At the end of the mission, replenish your energy with a pleasant meal in a restaurant in Skala or drive to Katelios, a seaside village to enjoy fresh fish dishes!
