Fishing Tourism

Kefalonia has the privilege, amongst other activities, to offer fishing tourism to its visitors. Hosted by professional fishermen, guests are welcomed aboard traditional greek fishing boats. They are introduced to the beauty of fishing with nets within the beautifully clear and safe waters of the Ionian Sea.

This immersive experience allows visitors to witness firsthand how fishing nets are collected while simultaneously learning about the varieties of fish living in the Ionian sea. Most guests witness lobsters, groupers, red mullets, octopuses, scorpion fish, spider crabs, monkfish, and many more being fished out of the sea in front of their eyes. But apart from this visitors enjoy the Kefalonian coast by getting the chance to swim on isolated beaches and explore the sea bed. The experience finishes with a selection from the catch of the day being cooked on the spot for the guests with local products complementing the meal.

Recognised as a sustainable activity that started off back in 2016, with the first fishing tourism license being issued to a Kefalonian fishing boat, at present Kefalonia has 10 active fishing tourism boats scattered throughout the island. Each with its own character and amenities it’s a lovely experience suitable for the whole family and all ages regardless of whether fishing is your hobby.

Make sure to book a fishing tourism trip on your next trip to Kefalonia! You won’t regret it!!
