In the Mediterranean environment of Cephalonia Botanica you will find a wide variety of Mediterranean plants.
The importance of the garden is huge because Greece has few botanical gardens.
The Botanical Garden aims to highlight the natives plant and environmental awareness. It started on the initiative of the Fokas-Kosmetatos Foundation.
Cephalonia Botanica developed in an olive grove and has been formed at various levels.
Gradually the Garden develops plant communities such as forest, macchia vegetation, phrygana, grassland. Plant communities will include special collections of plants depending on their use in medicine, cooking, floriculture, etc. Two such have already been created:
a. Medicinal herbs in the remains of old dry stone.
b. Durable Mediterranean plants of low care in the urban garden by the lake.
The artificial lake was planted with Mediterranean aquatic plants.
The garden is constantly enriched with rare and endemic plants, spores or bulbs.
Cephalonia Botanica is internationally recognized and has developed international environmental programs for children. In this way it contributes substantially to their ecological awareness.
