The Roman Villa in Skala

In the village near the sea a path leads to a small olive grove, where in 1957 the ruins of a villa of Roman times were found. There is a sign that directs you to the “Roman mansion”.

Some of the amazing mosaic floors are still preserved in good condition. The Roman villa dates back to the 2nd century AD. and must have been destroyed in 4 o ai. μ.X. from fire. The mosaic of the first room depicts Envy, a young man attacked by two pairs of beasts. In the second room the mosaics compose the image of three animals (boar, bull and ram) ready to be sacrificed. The floors are framed with geometric decorative shapes.

Opening hours: Tuesday-Sunday 08: 30-15: 00. Closed every Monday and public holidays.
