Kefalonia Says Walk!

We are delighted to welcome 5 new trails around Kefalonia!

Contemplating visiting Kefalonia during Spring, but worried that the weather might not be warm enough for beach activities. Well, we have an alternative option for you, “Kefalonia Trails”. Thoughtfully designed paths that are friendly to the hiker, satisfy and respond to all ages and walking abilities, and highlight the culture and nature of Kefalonia are just what you need.   The first 5 out of 15 trails are ready and waiting to be discovered and walked. Which one will you start with:

The Loop of Lassi

From - to: Argostoli - Limanaki Beach - Argostoli

Points of cultural Interest: Katavothres, Saint Theodore Lighthouse, Acqui Memorial

Starting from the port of Argostoli, the hiker initially follows a coastal route to the north, meeting monuments and sights of Argostoli, town. The route then approaches a coastal pedestrian walkway that runs parallel to the asphalt road toward Katavothres. It is an impressive geological phenomenon that comprises mystery and uniqueness in the area. The route then follows the asphalt road, passing through the beach of Fanari and approaches the lighthouse of Agioi Theodoroi (Fanari). From there again, it follows the asphalt for a short distance and approaches an impressive coastal path that leads to Limanaki Beach. From the beach, the trail continues along the coast and approaches a dirt road leading to the church of Agios Athanasios. From there, the path crosses the upper part of the town of Argostoli to reach the Napier Garden Theatre and Vallianos Square, two important landmarks of the city. 

The route can be carried out with an intermediate route. Through a dirt road and paths, the pedestrian can reach the Acqui memorial. From there, on a dirt road and paths, the church of Agios Athanasios can be reached through a shorter hike.

From - to: Poros - Tzanata - Poros

Points of cultural Interest: The Acropolis of Pronnon, Mycenaean Vaulted Tomb of Tzanata, Atros Monastery

The route starts from the bus stop at a central point of Poros. The hiker follows an uphill path to reach the ancient Acropolis of Pronnon, located at a point with an impressive view of the city. It then follows an old path that leads to the center of the village, Tzanata. It passes through the village and continues northwards through old paths to the abandoned village of Afragia. From there via an uphill path with an impressive view, it passes by the Monastery of Atrou. After a tour of the monastery, the hiker can follow the old downhill path that leads back, through a pine forest to the village of Poros.

Water and Wind

From - to: Trapezaki Beach - Monastery of the Crucified - Trapezaki Beach

The route starts from Trapezaki Beach, heads towards the north, and crosses a small but rich vegetation gorge. It then follows a dirt road surrounded by vegetation and crops that leads to the Holy Monastery of the Crucified. From there it follows a dirt road that moves southeast approaching the very picturesque beach of Agios Thomas. The route ends at Trapezaki Beach via a dirt road with a gentle inclination.

From - to: Argostoli - Ancient Krani - Argostoli

Points of Cultural Interest: DeBosset Bridge, St. Barbara cave church, Ancient Krani

The starting point of the route is where Antonis Tritsis Avenue intersects with the DeBosset Bridge. The route begins by crossing the bridge towards the direction of Panagia Drapaniotissa church. From there, through old paths, the hiker can visit the cave church of St. Barbara. Then the route passes through the village of Prokopota and then heads southeast through ancient paths to reach Ancient Krani and the site where the Cyclopean walls stand today. From there, via a downhill path, the hiker approaches the old water reservoir ‘Neromana’. Then it enters a coastal path that forms part of the Koutavos loop (the hiking trail that runs along the Argostoli Lagoon) while finishing at the starting point.

From - to: Skala - Old Skala - Skala

Points of Cultural Interest: Roman Villa in Skala, Old Skala, Skala Beach

Starting from the beach of Skala, the route passes through the village to reach the impressive Roman Villa of Skala. From there it passes through asphalt and dirt roads to reach the old uphill path leading to the old village of Skala, which was destroyed in the 1953 earthquake. Passing through the old village and encountering fountains, old churches, and spots with impressive views, it heads north towards the area of Chimoniko. From there it follows a dirt road that leads to Skala Beach.
